What is a vision of hope? What is Mizrahi citizenship?

Poverty, violence, racism, and oppression are not inevitable. As human-made conditions, humans are also capable of changing them. Mizrahi citizenship is a political perspective that strives to change society and create a different, democratic reality that is not based on a culture of war and may thus bring about a hope-based present and future.

The integrated Mizrahi Civic perspective is based on two central elements: one “civic,” which relies on the formation of a genuine democracy for populations that never enjoyed the fruits of Israeli democracy. The second is “Mizrahi,” which perceives the identity as a political stance and uplifts the struggle’s generational history against inequality. These foundations are a guiding force, toward which we tirelessly strive to achieve equality nurtured by the correction of injustices. This is made possible through the pursuit of distributive, transitional, and recognitive justice, active civic participation, and governmental cooperation with all people and communities, regardless of nationality, gender, or ethnicity, from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.

Our view opposes tribal division, which perpetuates the failure of Israeli democracy. We propose that citizenship in Israel be based on notions of freedom and equal opportunity for thought, expression, and action. Rather than outlines based on categories that relate to nationality, ethnicity, and class, we propose the exposure and amendment of socioeconomic exclusion among both nations. It is our duty to work toward the mutual salvation of both peoples between the river and the sea, from the cruel fate of war and terror. Our survival may solely be ensured through shedding an ethos of self-defense and replacing it with a commitment to save our communities. Social and distributive justice, along with peace and equality, are the sole values capable of providing security, protection, stability, and prosperity, for all residents of the region over time.
